SURBL is changing the usage policy for large sites
SURBL, the Spam URI BlackList has announced that they are changing the usage policy. Sites with 1,000 users or 250,000 queries or more will be asked to purchase a license. This is similar to the Spamhaus organization, who have made this move a few years earlier.
Large sites will be asked to get a rsync (an efficient download tool) feed and set up a local blacklist. Although this sounds daunting for those unfamiliar with name servers, it's not difficult to implement and it has the advantage of speed. Local lookups can be much faster.
SURBL will grant existing rsync users a 90 day grace period after the have received a notice about the change.
We will report later on what the effects are for current ASTPS customers and we trust there will be a good outcome. We will support our customers. Please contact NetCon for more information.
